Winter is here, winds are changing, temperatures drop below 0, air becomes rough and the central heating system makes it even worse… believe me when I say, we really need to be a step ahead and switch up our skin care routine as well.
I can actually hear your concerns and I feel you! Adding new products to our skincare routine is not always something we are looking forward to, especially when you have sensitive skin like me, especially when each new product you test triggers some strange or harsh reactions to your skin.
My winter skin care has two main pillars: avoiding certain products and feeding my skin with vitamins and antioxidants.
- Avoid alcohol products
Alcohol interferes with your skin’s protective surface. Also, products containing Alcohol lead to dehydration of your skin, that is already affected by the low temperatures and by the heating system.
So next time you look for a new cream in winter, look at the ingredients list first. Here are my two favorite alcohol free products:
Farsali Rose Gold Elixir
Farsali’s Rose Gold Elixir gold-infused beauty oil is a super-rich moisturiser which will help your skin recover from the cold weather. It contains only essential oils, it is formulated without parabens, sulfates or phthalates, it is 100% cruelty free and vegan friendly.
Rosa Rubiginosa (Rosehip) Seed Oil, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil, Cucurbita Pepo (Pumpkin) Seed Oil, Gold, Cymbopogon Soenanthus Oil, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Peel Oil, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vitamin E).
- Use products with powerful antioxidants and vitamins
During the harsh winter your skin is in need for healthy and beneficial nutrients. One of the main dangers of the cold weather is skin damage. Damaged skin can result in premature ageing, dull skin or even breakouts. So make sure the products you use have enough antioxidants, vitamins and will nourish your skin.
The Forever Living Alpha-E Factor
My favorite “magical” serum, is an antioxidant fluid, which according to Forever Living Products is designed to combat free radical damage, which causes 80% of our skin’s damage. It is enriched with Vitamin A, C and E, Borage Oil and Bisabolol.
Vitamin A is essential in skincare, it increases the deposition of collagen and the rate of wound healing, this is why it is ideal in acne scarring treatments. It also helps in the eradication of skin lesions, which can be cancerous.
According to Paula’s Choice, when the Vitamin C is added to your skincare routine, it will even out your skin tone, and will shield your skin against pollution.
Vitamin E will also defend your skin against free radicals. It is ideal for brown spots that are caused by aging or by free radicals.
Bisabolol, a natural, soothing ingredient with a light citrus aroma which will calm down your skin.
This serum is Vegan, Gluten Free and also not tested on animals.
Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Cyclomethicone, Tocopheryl Acetate, Retinyl Palmitate, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Aloe Barbadensis Extract, Bisabolol, Tocopherol, Lecithin, Borago Officinalis Seed Oil, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Fragrance.
Magnetight Age Defier by Dr. Brandt
Another favorite miracle product is actually the legendary magnetic Age Defier from Dr. Brandt.
The ingredients consist firming Peptides, which smooth the look of wrinkle and tightens the skin, it also contains minerals such as black tourmaline and molecule anti-oxidants.
What I absolutely love about this mask, is that you only have to keep it for 5-10 minutes, after removing the mask your face will be makeup ready.
Dr. Brandt does not test on animals.
Iron Powder, Dimethicone, Polysilicone-11, Nylon-12, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Silica, Tribehenin, Polymethylsilsesquioxane, Peg-10 Dimethicone, Polysorbate 40, Hdi/Trimethylol Hexyllactone Crosspolymer, Ceramide Ng, Peg-10 Phytosterol, Tourmaline, Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Oil, Isohexadecane, Ammonium Polyacryloyldimethyl Taurate, Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Fruit Oil, Palmitoyl Hexapeptide-12, Pelargonium Graveolens (Geranium) Flower Oil, Dimethylmethoxy Chromanol, Anthemis Nobilis (Chamomile) Flower Oil, Limonene, Linalool, Citronellol, Geraniol.
